A Miniature Altered Tin

Today I dug up a piece I made a few days ago, and forgot to show off to you. It’s a miniature altoid tin, dressed up and altered.

That’s the inside there. I can’t just send an empty tin. So I filled it with a few little jewelry making doo-dads. The ribbon is from The Sampler Kit (a past kit), the paper is from Colorboc, and the tin is from Target. The flowers are made of porcelain, and are buttons that were sent to me in a swap some time ago.

I added jewels on top, so you can’t see the button holes. I know they don’t match. It still looks cool.

So that’s that. I’ve got to get off, as my daughter REALLY wants to watch a movie.  Oh, and on another note, I want a laminating machine. I’ve got a couple jewelry ideas for it.

Got to run.

A Cheap Altered Notebook

So today, I finished up a journal. This one, is a cheap composition notebook that I painted and added embellishments and doodles to.

The words say, “Poesias Y Pensamientos” which in spanish means, “Poems and Thoughts”, since that is what I normally have in my journals. I had run out of space in my old one, and I do love a lined journal.

I used these pigment ink markers I bought a long time ago, to doodle on the front cover. It’s fun.

Anyway, I decided to go buckwild with the pages inside, and paint them, too.

That’s a poem, called “Happy Times”. It’s a story about a woman who wasted her life being bitter and now works in a shitty motel. I was thinking of a Paul Simon tune when I wrote this one.

Fun, right? I went today, to purchase some supplies. I’ve got a “product line” in mind for my new etsy shop. I’m excited about it. This time, I’m going to put my all into it, dammit! I get so scrambled sometimes. It’s hard being a sagitarius. I tend to have a scrambled up brain most of the time.

Also, I am thinking of moving my blog onto my website. It’ll still be my blog, but you’ll be reading it from my website, and I’ll be publishing it from there. Not sure yet, though.

Handmade Scrapbook Stickers

Today’s project was inspired by my browsing etsy. I was just looking, since I normally try to get jewelry inspiration from high fashion magazines, but this time haven’t gotten to it yet.

Anyway, I found a fun little item, so EASY, I couldn’t STAND it! I just HAD to make it. So here’s what I made.

Cute, right?

I’ll show you E A S Y it is to make these, in my upcoming LIVE video Blog! Finally! Check out the details HERE. I’m really excited about it. I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time now.

I’m having a bad morning, so I’ll spare you the bad mood and cut my blog short today. Suffice to say it is a murphy’s law kind of day, all before 10am in the morning.

An Altered Journal for a Pin Up Fan

Today I worked on a swap. I do love creating things for swaps, it’s so much fun. The swap that I worked on today, is for an altered journal. Fortunately for me, I happened to have a very good artist sketchbook, just waiting to be altered.

My partner’s favorite color is purple, and she loves pin up girls. So here’s what I came up with:

Now, I know that it is not typical of me to have a lot going on, as I love to lean towards the simple side, but today I was in the mood for a lot going on. I used purple acrylic paint by Plaid Crafts, Pan pastels in purple, typewriter font background stamp, and fusible glittery fibers, by Art Institute Glitter. The flower is by Prima, and is hiding a smudge. Damned inky fingers.

I used dimensionals to get Ms. Betti Page to pop out a bit more.

The ribbon was sent to me as extras, in a swap I was in.

The film strip ribbon is by Mr. Tim Holtz. I love that stuff!

What else? Today I am catching up on a bunch of swaps. I usually do them in bundles, since I wait until I have the extra $$ to mail them all out. It’s easier to do it once every couple weeks or so, then to have to keep going every so often.

Oh man. The other day, I made the most AMAZING portobello mushroom pizza and blackberry lemonade. It was SO good. Don’t worry, the food blog is coming. But since I don’t have the most high tech camera in the world, you all will just have to wait until my dear husband has the time to take amazing shots with my crappy camera, of the step by step.

That’s all for today.

Potty Mouthed ATCs

Today I finished up some ATCs that I made for a swap that I’m in. I warn you though, the swap is a “Blunt” ATC swap, which means cursing is involved.

I had to recruit my husband who has neat handwriting, to write it for me, since my printer is out of commission.

Well, I don’t know how I feel about them. I rather like them. Anyway, the swaps on ATCSforALL are quite different, in that you send them all to one place-the hostess. You also send her a little extra something, which is fortunate for her, since I happened to clean out my closet.

Speaking of which, can you believe that I destashed about 7 bags of garbage and 5 bags of art supplies to my friend? Crazy, right?  I couldn’t believe I had that much stuff to get rid of.

Today is tuesday, which means it’s the day to go to the Botanic Gardens with my little one. I love it there.

Frida, Hanging Out & a Sneak Peak

Today I finished up a necklace that I made. It’s a photo transfer pendant on a chain, with pretty beads.

Here, Frida is accompanied by some handmade paper beads.

This piece is lovely and colorful, and matches with an array of outfits. And the recycled beads really make it, don’t you think?

So CLICK HERE to purchase this item.

Oh, and the sneak peak! Well, I’m working on a fun item. It’s a set of affirmation cards. I will show you what some of them look like, so far.

These are just pieces of kraft colored cardstock, from Papertrey ink, which I gessoed and then painted. Now, I’m working on the collage aspect.

What else? I’m feeling lazy today. I was supposed to be going out to the gardens with my daughter, but arg, being pregnant can really make you tired. Maybe I’ll just walk around the neighborhood with her today, and take her to the playground instead.

ATC Week: The Final Frontier

So this being the last day of the week of ATCs, I thought it fitting to show you a fun and quick project that I made. It’s an ATC container!

This is a fun and quick project.

You can get a very cool template courtesy of Inking Pink. Granted, my box is simple. To make up for it, here’s a couple pics of my meetup group in action:

We had so much fun! We meet up every other friday night, and get together to have coffee, share our art supplies, and bitch about men and life, and all that.

It’s a lot of fun. You should join us, if you’re ever in the New York City area, or if you live near by.

Today is Saturday, which is goof off day for me, since my husband is working a double shift today. It’s raining, which means what? You said it folks: take out. Yummmmy in my tummy. I’ll be good and just make it pizza for tonite.  At least pizza isn’t SOOO bad for you, right?

I’m keeping up the theme thing, I think. Next week: Art Journal week! I’ve decided to make myself vulnerable and show you all the sort of painting and collage work that I love to do. You don’t mind, right?

ATC Week: Day 4

So I completed my set of 20 ATCs for this Mega swap that I’m in! This is the final 5 ATCs which incorporate a poem I wrote some time ago.

I’ll show you the pics of the ATCs, then I’ve posted the poem up, for you to read. The ATC version is slightly different, since I just felt inspired to do it that way.

You like it? These are just cut up pieces of cardstock, with cotton yarn wrapped around it, and then gessoed. After that, I painted it with watercolors. The words came from my typewriter, and then I glued them and colored them with PAN pastels.

So that’s that, really.  That last one is talking about my brother, if you want to know.

Since I do not have those cool little clear cases to send them in, I’ll be making my own. I got an ATC in the mail with a cool handmade envelope so I am using it as my template! Cool, right?  The only thing is that I have to make 20 of them. Good grief.

Tomorow will mark the end of my ATC week, so I hope you like what I have in store for tomorrow.

And, now for the poem:

Yesterday

when my

grandmother sang to me

taught me needlepoint and lace

crochet

and told me about jesus

(she of course, was the only one I believed)

yesterday

before the earth shattered

and

death followed

yesterday

I’m

reminded of the song

“Oh, I believe in yesterday…”

yesterday

when my father sang songs written by

George Harrison

John Lennon and

Paul McCartney

at night, to help me sleep

yesterday

when I gave birth to my daughter

just push

one two three, push

yesterday

now she sleeps on my shoulder and shakes her almost four year old hips.

yesterday

when I kissed her shoulder as she lay on my belly, naked

still purple

yesterday

when she called me momma in the

book store in park slope

the woman next to me looked and smiled

yesterday

when we were in love

when we were in love

but that particular yesterday, it’s today

it’s today that I love him and

he love me

yesterday he was a good boy

yesterday

the other was not

yesterday when he told me to go to college

yesterday

when I did not.

yesterday when I saw him in the kitchen

yesterday

I think I heard him laughing

holding the baby I lost years ago

yesterday

when I dreamed of all I have now

yesterday

when I became my own

yesterday

it’s all yesterday

blended to today

even now

right now

it’s yesterday

and now we look back and think

“Ah, yesterday, when life was simple….”

But it’s all yesterday

It all fades and blends in

like old jeans washed too often

like his old tattered tee shirt

or

cowboy boots so worn

that’s life

a collage of yesterdays

……………

I choose today.

The point of the poem is that we look around at the past so much sometimes, that we forget to look at the beauty of the present day. Yesterday may have brought pain but today is where we are at now.

I hope you like my art and my poem.

ATC Week: Day 3

So today I did a bit of collage work, for my set of 5 Artist Trading Cards.

Take a look:

For this one, I used an image I had printed wallet sized, at staples. I get a ton of them printed, because I use them in my photo Xfer jewelry stuff.

Then, the little hanging frida there, is a tiny picture I had printed, and then decoupaged it with mod podge on a large sequin.

And the quote was typed up on my gold old fashioned typewriter.

Oh man, it is so much fun to use a typewriter.

I like the little rhinestone heart, don’t you?

I love Billy Holiday, and I love this quote of hers. It’s true for everything, you know? It is always best to think your OWN thoughts and come up with your OWN ideas and not be afraid of expressing your true creative self.

Bob. Because he’s cool, that’s why.

This Bob does NOT need a rhinestone star. I think the sunglasses he’s wearing make up for the rhinestone.

I was so inspired by this typewriter of mine, that I’m attempting to type out a poem to use in some collage work in my art journal. I’ve decided I kind of like themed weeks for my blog. It’s kind of fun.

It’s really hot outside. Someone please come over with some coffee ice cream, please? It’s beginning to be too much. I don’t mind the sunny weather, but it’s too much to be hot and pregnant. Makes a person grouchy.

ATC Week: Day 2

It being Day 2 in my week of making Artist trading cards, I thought I’d share a confession with you. While I do paint and do collage work, I don’t share that much on my blog. Yesterday, I wanted to do small versions of my paintings, with my poetry written on them. The thing that I failed to remember, is that my handwriting is quite horrendous.

Anyway, I scrapped those, and went for something else. Here’s what I came up with for today:

You like it? I used my stash of foam letters and thicker letters, over card stock, then painted it with gesso, yellow, and a sloppy coat of silver paint. Then I stamped music notes over the letters and a small flower stamp on the blank edges. I decided to do 5 of the same design today. I mean, I do have 20 to do.

What else? It’s tuesday, which means the Botanic Garden is free, so I’m going there with my daughter.  I made the most amazing chocolate chip cookies last night.

Oh, and after suggestion from both my husband, and a friend from my art group, I’ve decided I’m going to do some collage art with my poems and put together a book. What do you think?
