Handmade Scrapbook Stickers

Today’s project was inspired by my browsing etsy. I was just looking, since I normally try to get jewelry inspiration from high fashion magazines, but this time haven’t gotten to it yet.

Anyway, I found a fun little item, so EASY, I couldn’t STAND it! I just HAD to make it. So here’s what I made.

Cute, right?

I’ll show you E A S Y it is to make these, in my upcoming LIVE video Blog! Finally! Check out the details HERE. I’m really excited about it. I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time now.

I’m having a bad morning, so I’ll spare you the bad mood and cut my blog short today. Suffice to say it is a murphy’s law kind of day, all before 10am in the morning.

An Altered Journal for a Pin Up Fan

Today I worked on a swap. I do love creating things for swaps, it’s so much fun. The swap that I worked on today, is for an altered journal. Fortunately for me, I happened to have a very good artist sketchbook, just waiting to be altered.

My partner’s favorite color is purple, and she loves pin up girls. So here’s what I came up with:

Now, I know that it is not typical of me to have a lot going on, as I love to lean towards the simple side, but today I was in the mood for a lot going on. I used purple acrylic paint by Plaid Crafts, Pan pastels in purple, typewriter font background stamp, and fusible glittery fibers, by Art Institute Glitter. The flower is by Prima, and is hiding a smudge. Damned inky fingers.

I used dimensionals to get Ms. Betti Page to pop out a bit more.

The ribbon was sent to me as extras, in a swap I was in.

The film strip ribbon is by Mr. Tim Holtz. I love that stuff!

What else? Today I am catching up on a bunch of swaps. I usually do them in bundles, since I wait until I have the extra $$ to mail them all out. It’s easier to do it once every couple weeks or so, then to have to keep going every so often.

Oh man. The other day, I made the most AMAZING portobello mushroom pizza and blackberry lemonade. It was SO good. Don’t worry, the food blog is coming. But since I don’t have the most high tech camera in the world, you all will just have to wait until my dear husband has the time to take amazing shots with my crappy camera, of the step by step.

That’s all for today.

ATC Week: The Final Frontier

So this being the last day of the week of ATCs, I thought it fitting to show you a fun and quick project that I made. It’s an ATC container!

This is a fun and quick project.

You can get a very cool template courtesy of Inking Pink. Granted, my box is simple. To make up for it, here’s a couple pics of my meetup group in action:

We had so much fun! We meet up every other friday night, and get together to have coffee, share our art supplies, and bitch about men and life, and all that.

It’s a lot of fun. You should join us, if you’re ever in the New York City area, or if you live near by.

Today is Saturday, which is goof off day for me, since my husband is working a double shift today. It’s raining, which means what? You said it folks: take out. Yummmmy in my tummy. I’ll be good and just make it pizza for tonite.  At least pizza isn’t SOOO bad for you, right?

I’m keeping up the theme thing, I think. Next week: Art Journal week! I’ve decided to make myself vulnerable and show you all the sort of painting and collage work that I love to do. You don’t mind, right?

ATC Week: Day 2

It being Day 2 in my week of making Artist trading cards, I thought I’d share a confession with you. While I do paint and do collage work, I don’t share that much on my blog. Yesterday, I wanted to do small versions of my paintings, with my poetry written on them. The thing that I failed to remember, is that my handwriting is quite horrendous.

Anyway, I scrapped those, and went for something else. Here’s what I came up with for today:

You like it? I used my stash of foam letters and thicker letters, over card stock, then painted it with gesso, yellow, and a sloppy coat of silver paint. Then I stamped music notes over the letters and a small flower stamp on the blank edges. I decided to do 5 of the same design today. I mean, I do have 20 to do.

What else? It’s tuesday, which means the Botanic Garden is free, so I’m going there with my daughter.  I made the most amazing chocolate chip cookies last night.

Oh, and after suggestion from both my husband, and a friend from my art group, I’ve decided I’m going to do some collage art with my poems and put together a book. What do you think?

The Beginning of ATC Week

So I’ve decided to dub this week as “ATC Week” for me, since I’m in a swap where I’ve got to send out 20 ATCs. That’s a lot of ATCs, huh? Well, I’m up for the challenge.

Well I’m going to make a few a day, until it’s time to send out. I hope you don’t mind.

I keep using that Imagine stamp because I really like it a lot.  And I needed an excuse to use that glitter paper. Oh man. The glittered paper, the green cardstock paper, and ribbon, are all from this month’s sampler kit.

This paper is from last month’s sampler kit.

And this one is from this month’s sampler kit.

Granted, they are simple. But I like simple.

I just finished reading the book, “The Alchemist” by Paul Coelho and I love it! I read it in a few days. It’s such an easy book to read, and really captures your attention.

If you’re in the mood to be inspired, and read an interesting story all at the same time, I highly suggest reading this book.

Imagine Gift Tags

So recently I finished working on a set of 10 gift tags. I notoriously collect vintage dictionaries for use in collage work and such, and decided to make a cute set of tags with some of the paper I had.

I used different ink shades, and some pretty yarn that I received in a swap.

Take a look:

You like them? I’ve listed them for sale in my etsy shop, if you’re interested. You get the whole set of 10.

On another note, I’m really excited to be taking a PR training course online this year. Recently my husband and I have been thinking about some new ideas we’ve got for my online shop and my etsy shop, and just want to rethink things. This summer (starting in July) I’m going to take a much needed break from teaching too often, to just focus on my blog, and the product ideas my hubby and I have in mind.

So that being said, a woman that I am proud to say is my personal friend (The Crafty Chica), is teaching a PR course online. I’m so excited to take this. You know, the truth is I am not good at thinking about my creativity on a business level. I just want to make stuff, I don’t want to think about how to go about selling it. You know?

But I’m really excited to take this course, because my hopes is that it will prompt me to do things a little differently. Plus, I love that The Crafty Chica really is a person who is qualified to teach a course like this because I mean, well look at all she’s accomplished. You know?

Anyway, the link to the course info is HERE.

So that’s that, really. Today there is supposed to be a solar eclipse and a New Moon. If you’re superstitious at all, the new moon is when you’re supposed to attract things to yourself: new ideas, new projects, etc.

Here’s an idea: why not make a wish box? You can collage it with all the things that represent what you want in the coming year or so. I think I’ll make one today. I have an empty shadow box, so I might make a shadow box/shrine box thingie for my wishes and dreams and such.

A Pretty Set of Flowers

So today, I finished up a quick project: a set of pretty little tags.

The Flowers are handmade, of course. I glittered the edges. Now, normally I ink up the edges with a bit of ink, but I was feeling in a rather messy kind of mood, and just smudged glue on the sides with my hands. The glitter is by Martha Stewart, I believe.

This set of four tags is for sale in my etsy shop.

What else? It’s really hot here in New York City today. Super hot. I happen to be an early riser, and this morning at around 6:30, it was raining like crazy! I sent my husband out to buy me coffee and bread and the poor guy came back soaked to the bone! Can you believe that? And now of course, it is super duper hot.

I know I told you I’d post pics about my concert, but truthfully concert pics look bad. They never come out right unless you’ve got some fancy camera or something.

Anyway, that is that.

Day of the Dead Elvis

So here’s a fun item I just made.

My husband was kind enough to make this Day of the Dead Elvis carved in rubber for me. This prompted me to make a set of cards from it.

So, what do you think? You like it?

I’ve got the stamp for sale in my etsy shop, here. I’ve got a few more, and I’ll be making some hand bound books bearing this glorious Elvis on the cover. Does that sound cool to you?

A Pretty Flock of Butterflies

Recently I made a little card, and a set of embellishments.

It’s kind of a crappy picture, sorry about that. Here’s the inside.

It pops out to reveal a flock of butterflies. It’s a simple card, but I like simplicity.

Here’s the embellishments I made:

This was made with watercolor papers, watercolor paint, and then the stamp (Blockhead Stamps) was embossed. Nice, right?

What else? I’ve been a bit out of sorts. Just kind of scrambled around. I have lots of things pending, ideas and things that are finally going to start happening.

I’ve decided to revive my etsy shop, to carry a line of handmade soaps. Not yet, but that will happen this year. I love soap making, and I’ve decided to start selling in craft fairs with a friend, who makes candles. I’m so excited.

I’m also going to be launching a video blog, through youtube. It’ll be my own web show, with tutorials, reviews, and me chattering on about this and that.

Those are all in the works, so hence the short blog post today. Oh, and I’ve got my husband’s birthday, and my daughter’s as well. I’m off today, to make his gift. Can’t tell you, since he reads my blog.

A Scrapbook, and a Giveaway

So I’ve mentioned before that I design for The Sampler, which is a lovely monthly scrapbook kit subscription.  I love the idea of monthly kits. They are such a fun way of stocking up on paper craft supplies.

I wanted to first show you a sneak peak, for May kit, and then show you what I’ve made with April’s kit. And, they’re having a giveaway, isn’t that nice?

So here’s a couple sneak peaks:

Trust me, the items in the kit are as yummy as they look, truly. Oh, and they are having a very lovely giveaway! Isn’t that nice?

Here’s what I made, with my April Kit:

Do you like it? I really do. I used some vintage lace trip to bind the paper bag book. I love making paper bag books. They are so much fun! And so portable. You know? AND, the pockets. I’m a sucker for pockets, since I love to save things.

I’ve recently gotten back into scrapbooking, for reasons I cannot yet tell you. So you’ll have to wait another, uhm…4 or 5 weeks, and I’ll keep you in suspense that way.

But if you ever want to, I do suggest joining a monthly scrapbooking kit such as The Sampler, as it is chock full of all sorts of goodies.

I really want to tell you now, but I’m going to play it safe and wait a bit longer.
